The 2001 Community Service Council Awards 

 

 

Congratulations to all who were honored at the Council's 2001 annual Awards Celebration!

In the spirit of the Dream Catcher ... each year the Community Service Council honors outstanding people who are working together to catch, shape, and realize our community's dreams for a brighter future.

Thie 2001 celebration took place on October 25, 2001, at Gilcrease Museum.

2001 David Bernstein Distinguished Leadership Award:

Lena Bennett

This award -- the Council's highest honor -- recognizes many years of significant, visionary leadership, service, and community involvement.  

This year for the first time, the honoree was chosen by a group of past recipients, and kept secret until it was announced at the celebration! 

Past recipients have included some of Tulsa's most respected long-time community leaders:  Charles Goodall, Phillip Howell, Noble Manion, Robert LaFortune, Dr. George Prothro, Henry & Anne Zarrow, Joan Flint, Rev. Clarence Knippa, Nathan Loshak, Nancy Feldman, Betty Swindle, Maynard Ungerman, Evelyn Nienhuis, Karen Davis, and Nancy McDonald  2000 honoree Rev. Russell Bennett presented the award to Lena Bennett.

Thanks to the Awards Committee:  Tim Colwell (Publicity), Susan Neal (Emcee), Lauren Brookey (Video Coordinator), Steve Kennedy (Chair).  Other committee members were Jill Willey, Carole Huff Hicks, Gary Percefull, Mary Ann Skinner and Teresa Burkett.  Phil Dessauer, Jr., Sharon Clark, Mary Finley, Conni Hussain, and Ginny Morgan provided staff support.

A commemorative video highlighted Lena Bennett's service to the Tulsa community.  Special thanks to video volunteers Maynard Ungerman and Rev. Russell Bennet (consultation - award), and to Bill Hinkle, Robert Billings, and Johnny Graham (production).  Steve Kennedy and HKH Advertising created a wonderful commemorative program honoring Ms. Bennett.  

Thanks to Kelly Ross for helping Sharon Clark with photography this year.

Thanks also to everyone else on the Board and Staff who helped make the event a success!

 

Music was provided by an instrumental ensemble from Washington High School.

 

A time for celebration

Community Service Council Board members, staff members, honorees, families and friends gathered to enjoy the Awards Ceremony at Gilcrease Museum, followed by a reception in the Vista Room.
