On May 2, 2001, hundreds of current and past community colleagues, board members, supporters, staff, and friends gathered to celebrate six decades of service to the Tulsa community, to thank all those who have made the Council's accomplishments possible, and to kick off the Endowment Fund campaign.  Many thanks to all who helped with and attended this celebration!

What a festive occasion!  Hundreds of well-wishers gathered May 2, 2001 at the Junior League of Tulsa headquarters, to celebrate the Council's six decades of service to the Tulsa community and to thank all who have helped make it possible.

, Tulsa City Councilor, brought warm greetings and this Proclamation  from the MayorWhereas, the Community Service Council of Greater Tulsa has served Tulsa as the preeminent agency for social planning for sixty years; and, whereas, the Community Service Council of Greater Tulsa has taken leadership positions in difficult and critical public policy issues like HIV/AIDS, economic inequities and early childhood; and, whereas, the diligent staff of the the Community Service Council of Greater Tulsa is known throughout our city as dedicated professionals working to improve our community; and, whereas, we thank the staff and board of the CSC for sixty years of excellence; now, therefore, I, M. Susan Savage, Mayor of the City of Tulsa, do hereby present this Certificate of Recognition to the the Community Service Council of Greater Tulsa on the occasion of their sixtieth year Anniversary.  - May 2, 2001.


CSC President Michael Evanson and Vice President Teresa Burkett presented flowers to honor the United Way, past Presidents, current and past Executive Directors, and long-time staff members.

Kathleen Coan, President and CEO of the Tulsa Area United Way, represented the United Way and its generations of donors in accepting sincere thanks for United Way's constant support for the work of the Council throughout its sixty-year history.


Past Presidents of the Council were honored.  Present were, pictured from left to right:  Joan Flint (1968, 69), Reginald Barnes (1956, 57),  Maynard Ungerman (1986, 87, 88), Nancy McDonald (1997, 98), Carole Huff Hicks (1999, 2000), Tony Adair (1989, 90), Betty Swindle (1991, 92), Janet Deck (1980, 81), and Erma Henson (1984, 85).

Phil Dessauer, Jr., Executive Director, expressed the Council's thanks to all who have worked together over the years to help the Council serve the Tulsa community.

A Silent Auction raised over $2,100 to launch the Council's new Endowment Fund, which will help to build our financial foundation for the next sixty years.  (Michael Evanson announced that the Tulsa Community Foundation has recently provided a $5000 grant to help begin the endowment fund.)

"Guestbook Banner" -- A wonderful 60th anniversary banner in the foyer served as a guestbook, signed by well-wishers.  The banner will be at the Council office for additional colleagues and friends to sign throughout the coming months; next time you're in the office, be sure to add your greetings!  (Sincere thanks to CSC Board member and event chair Steve Kennedy and HKH Advertising for providing this banner and the 60th anniversary artwork!)

 

Gary Percefull, CSC Board and event planning committee member, served as "ringmaster."  Everyone enjoyed classical music by an ensemble from the Booker T. Washington High School Orchestra: Laura Bellows, Jacob Curtis, Lindsay K. Smith, and Lauren Ward.

The CSC Staff provided the delicious breakfast!  Staff and many Board members volunteered during the event, doing all the behind-the-scenes tasks which added up to a successful and fun experience for all.
