HIV/AIDS, the Coalition, the Partnership, and the AmeriCorps Team

Tulsa appreciates the National AIDS Fund AmeriCorps Teams

Tulsa is the the only National AIDS Fund Partnership to have hosted an AmeriCorps team since the program in national service began in 1993.  The team is hosted by the Tulsa Community AIDS Partnership.

 

Welcome, 2009-2010 Team!


Tulsa has been selected for a 16th National AIDS Fund AmeriCorps Team.

 

Five new National AIDS Fund AmeriCorps Team-Tulsa members will begin work on August 20 after five days of AmeriCorps training by the National AIDS Fund in Santa Fe, New Mexico.  The new members are their host sites are:

Sara Swain (Team coordinator) – Tulsa CARES

Samantha Young – The HOPE Testing Clinic

Lauren Corr – the HOPE Testing Clinic

Haley Adams – the American Red Cross

Torey Brill – Planned Parenthood and Youth Services

Tulsa's Team completed their year of national service in Washington, D.C. on July 10, 2009.  They are pictured above with AmeriCorps Team members from Charlotte, Detroit, Indianapolis, the state of New Mexico, and Washington, D.C.

 

The four 2008-2009 Tulsa Team members reported outcomes from their 11 months of work at the HOPE Testing Clinic, Tulsa CARES, the American Red Cross and Planned Parenthood including the following service:
 

·         -  50 HIV positive individuals received case management assistance for housing, food, transportation, medical care, and mental health counseling

·         -  2,000 students in Tulsa area schools received HIV prevention education

·         -  600 individuals received HIV prevention, education, counseling and testing with 5 persons testing HIV positive

 

 In addition, the Tulsa Team completed two long-term projects:
 

·         -  the donation and installation of a new air conditioning system for Our House Too and their clients

·         -  health fairs at the Eddie Warrior Correctional Facility for women and the Jess Dunn Correctional Facility for men

 

Thanks to Sara Swain (Team Coordinator), Samantha Young, Erica Morgan, and Cory Woffard for contributing more than 6,800 hours of national service to the Tulsa community.

Justice was the invited speaker for the swearing-in ceremony and closing luncheon at the pre-service training in Washington, D.C. for all the National AIDS Fund AmeriCorps members on 7 teams on August 11.
