Reforming DHS procedures for notifying parents of DHS'S concerns about certain child care centers

Peters, Ron

Human Services

Examine DHS procedures for notifying parents when DHS has concerns about a child care facility. Study will focus on the procedures followed which led up to the recent death of Joshua Minton in a Tulsa child care center. Why facility wasn't closed sooner? Why earlier confirmations of abuse weren't reported?

Secondarily, we will examine DHS's proposed on line reporting of child center complaints. What should be posted and time delay in posting.

Finally, will identify any state laws that may need to be changed to ensure that notifications are given as quickly as possible.
