A letter from CSC's President and Executive Director Thank you so much for your past support of the Community Service Council! As you know, the Council brings our community together for the common good – tackling hard issues; researching needs and best steps for improvement; involving those most knowledgeable and concerned to help shape new directions; and mobilizing action toward desired change. One great example is the Council’s Area Prevention Resource Center (APRC) (read more), featured in this year’s Friends of the Council campaign. The Center is widely recognized for the different, innovative ways it is making a difference in the lives of youth and families, in east Tulsa, and now, through expanded efforts in north Tulsa. Groundbreaking work also is underway within other Council initiatives. Just a few examples include: • Research and data presentations on key demographic and other trends have been greatly enhanced through CSC’s designation as a new Census Information Center. • Improving child care quality means Tulsa parents have more nationally-accredited child care options, with help from the Quality Enhancement Initiative of the Child Care Resource Center. • Early identification of disabilities among young children and link to treatment can yield the most hopeful results – as the Council has revived Tulsa’s LINK program. • Removing non-academic barriers to learning to enhance student success is the goal of the Tulsa Area Community Schools Initiative underway in 18 elementary schools located in the Tulsa and Union districts. • Addressing the mental health needs of children and youth through the Child Behavioral Health Task Force, includes helping young people 19-21 transition from the child welfare, juvenile justice, and mental health systems into responsible community life. • Coordinating Tulsa’s Drug Court program, the largest in Oklahoma, is being complemented by a new CSC coordinated mental health court. • Responding to over 600 callers monthly assures early access to needed help through the Council’s 2-1-1 Tulsa Helpline. And the list goes on (please learn more online: www.csctulsa.org). The Council’s work touches thousands of Tulsans throughout the lifespan, focused on an overall prevention strategy to assist people toward best caring for themselves and their families. Contributions from the Friends of the Council campaign help advance the scope and impact of this strategy. They also help assure CSC has the flexibility to best respond to new, emerging issues. Please join us, and many others in contributing to the Friends of the Council campaign. Thank you for your continued support. Sincerely, Kerry Lewis, President Phil Dessauer, Jr., Executive Director |
